Magnetic particle inspection is used on ferromagnetic materials such as steel and its alloys to locate surface breaking cracks and defects. It works on the principle that where a crack breaks the magnetic field then this will result in field leakage. Colored iron particles are then utilized to reveal the location of any magnetic field leakage.
Eddy current testing is used on conductive metals. It can be used to detect surface breaking cracks and defects. Eddy current testing can detect surface and slightly sub-surface defects. It has the added advantage it can be used through paint & coatings. ECT can be used to determine a materials IACS% conductivity value.
Surface crack detection using dye penetrant inspection is a cost effective method. Its very useful on non-ferrous metals where MPI cannot be utilized. It works on a principle of capillary action where this phenomena pulls fluids into tight narrow spaces such as crack faces. The dye is normally visible red or UV fluorescent yellow.
Ultrasonic defect detection sends pulses of sound deep into the test material, any echo's that reflect sound back indicates either a defect or geometry. The operator interprets the reflections and decides based off his knowledge of the components geometry. Ultrasonic testing is very good at finding sub-surface volumetric and planar defects like cracks, laminations, stringers, inclusions, laps, slag, porosity and fusion defects. Its also excellent at determining wall thicknesses of piping so its used extensively for corrosion monitoring.
Third party radiographic interpretation services. This service is aimed at clients that desire an independent 3rd party cross-checking of radiographs taken.
We offer visual inspectors that are certified to EN9712 PCN LvII Visual Testing. We have a range of clear image inspection videoscopes that enables you to make inspections in spaces where access is very limited. Videoscopes are 2 way and 4 way articulated and have distal tip diameters as small as 2.4mm. Where greater optical resolution is required then we offer optical swing prism borescopes of various diameters and lengths.
